The prolific author, radio commentator, humorist, & populist’s talk: “Against the Current: How Indy Media & Activists Can Challenge Corporate Control”

Jim Hightower, the progressive Texas populist whose newsletter Hightower Lowdown, daily radio Common Sense Commentary, and numerous books have endeared him to millions, visited on September 24, 2015. He gave a public talk, “Against the Current: How Indy Media & Activists Can Challenge Corporate Control,” and signed books. Earlier he met with students, faculty, and staff in more intimate conversation.

Hightower has spent four decades battling the “powers that be” on behalf of the “powers that ought to be” — consumers, working families, environmentalists, small businesses and just plain folks. He served as director of the Texas Consumer Association before running for statewide office and being elected to two terms as Texas Agriculture Commissioner.

A popular populist speaker and writer, Hightower broadcasts daily radio commentaries, pens a nationally syndicated column, and publishes the weekly newsletter. His many books include Swim Against the Current: Even A Dead Fish Can Go With The Flow, Thieves In High Places: They’ve Stolen Our Country and It’s Time To Take it Back, and There’s Nothing In the Middle Of the Road But Yellow Stripes and Dead Armadillos.
