Whistleblowers, the Law, and Accountability Journalism

What makes someone risk it all to tell the truth?

Who do they tell, and what happens once dangerous truths are disclosed?

Ithaca College journalism students are invited to join SPJ New England, Project Censored, and the Park Center for Independent Media for the 2026-2027 inaugural whistleblower speaker series and learn why speaking out—whistleblowing—is just the beginning.

Over the course of four sessions, across the 2026-2027 academic year, legal experts, whistleblowers, and journalists will explain:

  • the legal, professional, and personal challenges that whistleblowers face
  • how journalists verify disclosures, protect sources, and publish stories that serve the public interest
  • what whistleblowing means for power accountability and the public’s right to know
