Free and open to all. Wheelchair accessible.

Dave Zirin is the sports editor at The Nation Magazine, their first sports editor in 160 years of existence. He is the author of eleven books on the politics of sports, including The Kaepernick Effect: Taking a Knee, Changing the World. He is the co-producer, writer and narrator of several documentaries including Behind the Shield: The Power and Politics of the NFL. He has been a frequent guest on ESPN, MSNBC, and CNN and hosts The Nation’s Edge of Sports Podcast. His latest, The People’s Historian: The Outsized Life of Howard Zinn, is his first non-sports book.

Zirin will engage in dialogue with historian Mickey Huff, Director of PCIM and Professor of Journalism at IC, about the life, times, and legacy of the late Howard Zinn, author most notably of the bestseller, A People’s History of the United States (1980). Zinn offered a much-needed counterpoint to establishment US textbooks. He looked at history from the bottom up, not the top down; highlighted narratives of the indigenous and enslaved, not colonizers and slave owners; and championed working people, women, immigrants, and any movement fighting for equality, peace, and civil liberties.

Individuals with disabilities requiring on-site accommodation for PCIM events should reach out to Marcy Sutherland at msutherland1@ithaca.edu.
