Meet the interns!
Abbigail Puckett
‘28, Journalism
This summer, I’m interning at the Assembly in North Carolina, which is an independent digital magazine covering stories throughout the state. As an editorial intern, I’ve been given the opportunity to cover stories ranging from legislature and political figures to food and restaurants that are the backbone of Greensboro. The role also involves assisting with a local newsletter released three times a week called The Thread.
Autumn Valdes
‘27, Journalism
I am interning with the Center for Cooperative Media at Montclair State University, a program dedicated to strengthening local journalism in New Jersey. The center has hosted the annual Collaborative Journalism Summit (CJS) for the past 10 years, a conference where local reporters, freelance journalists and funders can network, collaborate and share ideas. As an intern, I attended CJS this summer, where I photographed and filmed the two-day event for the center’s social media and assisted with event logistics. I help coordinate the center’s in-person workshops and also attend online press briefings where journalists and policy experts can connect to discuss immigration policy and New Jersey’s media landscape. I help to draft write ups after these press briefings, for the center’s blog on Medium. Additionally, I will be shadowing reporters in local newsrooms, including the Jersey Bee and Montclair Local to gain more experience on live reporting and public service journalism.
Eamon Corbo
‘28, Journalism
This summer, I am interning in the news department of the Boston Neighborhood Network, a public access broadcast station in Boston, Massachusetts. I will be researching, writing scripts, conducting interviews, and shooting and editing video for a variety of videos covering community stories in Boston. I am also working as a reporting intern at the Boston Institute for Nonprofit Journalism, where I am currently looking into surveillance in Greater Boston.
Eva Palm-Leon
‘27, Journalism/World Languages
I am interning at Hola Cultura, a Washington, D.C.-based independent magazine that focuses on celebrating and elevating Latine arts and culture. As an editorial intern, I am working with a Society & Culture team of three fellow interns to research, pitch, report and write stories for publication on the online magazine. I am excited to get to know a new community and create meaningful stories while learning from my peers.
Hannah Coulthurst
‘28, Journalism
This summer, I have the opportunity to intern with Reel Brooklyn Films, an independent documentary company based in Brooklyn, NY. During this internship, I am gaining hands-on experience as a production and editing assistant on a documentary project about Antisemitism for PBS. I catalog interview sound bites, organize filmed footage, and provide feedback on rough cuts. I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to work with a small production team and see the intricacies that go into telling important stories through documentary film making.
Jacob Gelman
‘28, Journalism
Over the summer, I am interning at The Red Door Films as the Director’s Assistant. We’re making a documentary about women Air Force service pilots during WWII. I’m helping with research tasks, organizing information into our logging systems, coordinating interns’ schedules, making transcripts, and more. I’m working closely with the director, head of archival and other interns in my daily tasks.
Julian DeLucia
‘27, Journalism
This summer, I am interning at Waging Nonviolence, a non-profit media organization that centers news around protests and social movements. I’m working with a small, focused team on various parts of the editorial process, such as copy editing and brainstorming, as well as helping to run and optimize the outlet’s social media pages. Working with them has given me a better understanding of what working in independent journalism is really like, and how small publications can find their niche and expand.
Kaeleigh Banda

This is my third summer as an intern through the PCIM internship program! For the summer of 2026, I am working with the Ithaca Times as an editorial intern, assisting with writing and editing as needed. Outside of PCIM, I am the editor-in-chief for The Ithacan, an award-winning independent student newspaper. I am also part of the Park Scholar Program, which is rooted in volunteer work, media creation and academic excellence. I am grateful to PCIM and the Park Foundation for encouraging and inspiring me to get involved in independent media. It is truly the core of our society.
Sean Gallagher

This summer I am interning at the New Britain Progressive located in New Britain, Connecticut. At the internship, I am doing research about certain political events happening throughout the town along with attending the events, taking photos and interviewing subjects at different cultural festivals, and having weekly meetings to help with editing stories and know what’s going on in the town.
Sydney Martin

This summer, I am interning with In These Times, where I will be fact-checking and researching for investigative stories. In my reporting, I’m passionate about political coverage and bringing international stories to local communities. I’m eager to learn as much as I can this summer while exposing myself to the world of independent journalism. When I’m not reporting, I enjoy crocheting, playing guitar or watching baseball.
Trey Nitza
‘28, Journalism
I am a journalism student at Ithaca College with minors in international politics and French translation studies. I am passionate about all kinds of journalistic storytelling, but especially adept in broadcast and multimedia. This summer I am interning with Convergence Magazine. I also serve as a producer for Good Day Ithaca on Ithaca College Television and have my own podcast about the plight of local news across the United States titled “The Deserts.”
